Selectmen Candidates Night, Wednesday 2/29

There was a Candidates Forum for the contested Selectmen seats last night at Town Hall, which was broadcast live.  Replays of the forum will run until  Monday before  Election Day – Tuesday 3/13.  They are scheduled as shown below.  Odd start times are because they immediately follow some other program, and will change each week as the preceding program lengths change.

This is a tough time of year for the program schedule… we are squeezing in special programming (the Deliberative, the Forum), and they cause long cascades of odd start times that vary week to week as individual programs change their run lengths… most noticeable when there’s a board meeting replay that might be 45 minutes one week and  3 hours long the next.

Math Night with Professor Mahesh Sharma from November 15, 2011

A video of Prof. Sharma has been running for about a month.  With the Deliberative Session replays taking a big bite out of the schedule between now and Election Day (3/13),  Math Night replays are limited. The scheduled start times are now dictated by the length of School Board meeting replays that precede the Math Night replay, so they will change again when the next Souhegan school board meeting is recorded and replayed after March 8.  Check the on-screen schedule on Channel 21 for exact start times.. it always shows the next 10 scheduled programs between programs.

Halloween Specials

Both of our Friday night Horror hosts (Marlena Midnight of Midnight Mausoleum and Penny Dreadful of Penny Dreadful Shilling Shockers) are doing fresh Halloween specials, and we’re going to show them both, back to back, in prime time on Halloween, starting at 8PM.  Here’s what Penny promises:

Penny Dreadful and Dr. Gangrene Scare In New Halloween TV Special

Horror Hosts Collaborate For Hex-Cellent Halloween TV Special

Hallowed horror hosts Penny Dreadful and Dr. Gangrene are teaming up to save Halloween in an all new half hour television special entitled “The Dreadful HallowGreen Special” premiering in October on stations around the country.

From his secret hidden laboratory on the mysterious Shackle Island Dr. Gangrene issued the following quote, “Penny Dreadful is a tremendous talent and her show is a really first rate program. Despite the fact she dabbles in such an unscientific area of study, it was my pleasure to collaborate with Penny on this Halloween special, combining science and magic to save the greatest holiday of all, Halloween! Now that’s what I call a mad monster party!”

The duo find themselves readying for the upcoming Halloween season when suddenly all things go awry. It’s up to the physician of fright, Dr. Gangrene, and the eerie enchantress, Penny Dreadful, to set things right and save Halloween for everyone in a brand new television special.

While sipping hemlock brew from a smoking goblet Penny Dreadful related, “I was very hex-cited to join forces with that quack..er.. I mean esteemed mad scientist and horror host, Dr. Gangrene! Not only am I a fan of the Doctor’s fine program, but we also happen to see eye to bloodshot eye on most subjects – especially the subject of Halloween. I hope this TV Special becomes staple All Hallows Eve viewing for monster movie fans both living and dead.”

Penny Dreadful’s Shilling Shockers, now in its 8th season, is based in New England and airs in over 150 cities. Penny Dreadful is portrayed by Danielle Gelehrter who, in 2007, was awarded the prize for Favorite Horror Host by the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.

Dr. Gangrene’s Creature Feature airs on its home station WNAB CW58 in Nashville TN. Dr. Gangrene is portrayed by Larry Underwood. The Good Doctor has been shocking the Scare-waves since 1999. His programs have won countless praise and have been nominated for two Emmy Awards for Public Service.

The Dreadful HallowGreen Special premieres Halloween weekend 2010 on finer television stations. Check local listings for show times. For more information on Dr Gangrene or Penny Dreadful please visit www.drgangrene.com and www.shillingshockers.com.

The Midnight Mausoleum special will follow the regular late night format, with a full-length horror film and visits with Marlena and her friends, and be two hours long.

Local Films come to ACTV20

Matt Farley from Motern Media has made two locally-produced films available to us.

Freaky Farley (2007) (IMDB, Facebook) and Monsters, Marriage, and Murder in Manchvegas (2009) (IMDB, Facebook) will show in our ACTV Presents timeslots (twice on Sunday, once a day thereafter for a week).

Freaky Farley debuts Sunday 8/29.  It will repeat the week of 10/24, and be followed by Monsters, Marriage, and Murder in Manchvegas the week of 10/31.

Thanks to Matt for making his work available to local Public Access TV.

Upcoming Specials

We subscribe to a number of sources for our specials (which premier Sundays at 4, repeat Sunday night and once day for the rest of the week).   They arrive at irregular intervals, but for the last year or so they’ve come in regularly enough so that there was always something waiting for broadcast.  Starting just before Christmas, all (but one) of our sources dried up at once. Over the holidays, I put together some repeats that seemed appropriate in some way to the season, including a focus on locally-produced content.  Now that the new year is here, I’m reaching out to some new content to see how it looks.

Over the few months, assuming none of our regular series comes in, you’ll see episodes from a series produced in Bedford about Monarchs Hockey,  episodes of NASA 360 paired with repeats of Eat Right NH (30 minutes each), and a sampling of cooking shows that are available to us (Chef Ed, Oven Luvn with Melisa, and Papa Tuck).

The Deliberative Sessions for Town, School, and Souhegan  are the 3rd-4th-5th of February, and we try to rerun them all frequently between the deliberatives and election day, so unless a hot special comes in, we’ll see them replaced with Deliberative replays from February 14 until March 7.

Specials during the week of December 27-January 2

We were planning to run the Navy Band holiday concert next week, but the mid-Atlantic snowstorm wiped out the live concert, so there’s no recording.   Instead, we’ll use a collection of shows:

  • Manchester Magic, starring a local resident
  • The Fate of the Stallion, a documentary
  • Hidden New Hampshire – Purgatory Falls, produced by local residents

Jazzy Nutcracker

We are running the Souhegan HS production of the Jazzy Nutcracker this week in the specials timeslot.   There was an error in converting the DVD for broadcast that went unnoticed, so the Sunday and Monday broadcasts were only of Act I.  The problem was fixed Monday night, so the Tuesday through Saturday broadcasts will be the whole show, two acts lasting 1 hour and 7 minutes.

We have permission to run this in future years as well, so look forward to seeing it during future holiday seasons.
