Season 4 of Midnite Mausoleum begins 5/20

Our friends at Midnite Mausoleum have begun releasing Season 4, and we’ll start running them on Friday May 20.  So far, the first three scheduled movies are:

Halloween Horror Marathon

In addition to the prime-time Halloween specials from two of our favorite horror hosts, we will also show two local horror films from a local producer, Matt Farley.  They will show back-to-back late at night all three nights of Halloween weekend.

Halloween Specials

Both of our Friday night Horror hosts (Marlena Midnight of Midnight Mausoleum and Penny Dreadful of Penny Dreadful Shilling Shockers) are doing fresh Halloween specials, and we’re going to show them both, back to back, in prime time on Halloween, starting at 8PM.  Here’s what Penny promises:

Horror Hosts Collaborate For Hex-Cellent Halloween TV Special

Hallowed horror hosts Penny Dreadful and Dr. Gangrene are teaming up to save Halloween in an all new half hour television special entitled “The Dreadful HallowGreen Special” premiering in October on stations around the country.

From his secret hidden laboratory on the mysterious Shackle Island Dr. Gangrene issued the following quote, “Penny Dreadful is a tremendous talent and her show is a really first rate program. Despite the fact she dabbles in such an unscientific area of study, it was my pleasure to collaborate with Penny on this Halloween special, combining science and magic to save the greatest holiday of all, Halloween! Now that’s what I call a mad monster party!”

The duo find themselves readying for the upcoming Halloween season when suddenly all things go awry. It’s up to the physician of fright, Dr. Gangrene, and the eerie enchantress, Penny Dreadful, to set things right and save Halloween for everyone in a brand new television special.

While sipping hemlock brew from a smoking goblet Penny Dreadful related, “I was very hex-cited to join forces with that quack..er.. I mean esteemed mad scientist and horror host, Dr. Gangrene! Not only am I a fan of the Doctor’s fine program, but we also happen to see eye to bloodshot eye on most subjects – especially the subject of Halloween. Penny Dreadful’s Shilling Shockers, now in its 8th season, is based in New England and airs in over 150 cities. Penny Dreadful is portrayed by Danielle Gelehrter who, in 2007, was awarded the prize for Favorite Horror Host by the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.

Dr. Gangrene’s Creature Feature airs on its home station WNAB CW58 in Nashville TN. Dr. Gangrene is portrayed by Larry Underwood. The Good Doctor has been shocking the Scare-waves since 1999. His programs have won countless praise and have been nominated for two Emmy Awards for Public Service.

The Midnight Mausoleum special will follow the regular late night format, with a full-length horror film and visits with Marlena and her friends, and be two hours long.

Midnight Mausoleum Summer Camp Special Marathon

This Friday night/Saturday morning AND Saturday night/Sunday morning, we’ll replay the two Midnight Mausoleum Summer Camp Special movies as a Marathon after the regularly scheduled Friday night horror movie (this week it’s Penny Dreadful’s Dust to Dust), and the regularly scheduled Saturday night horror movie (this week it’s Horror Hotel‘s premiere).  So starting at 11PM Friday, it’s 6 straight hours of horror films, and again starting at 10PM on Saturday night.

The two Summer Camp Special movies are Zombie Abomination and Zombie Atrocity. We’ll show them in that order Friday night, and in reverse order Saturday night (in case you can’t keep your eyes open through 4AM!).

So here’s the schedule for Friday nights at 11 for the next few weeks.  Marlena Midnight and her crew have promised us a whole new season of films coming soon, so I’ve left September 3rd and 24th open for them, and we’ll continue to schedule new ones as they arrive.  If they run in to production delays, we’ll just keep showing repeats of Penny Dreadful Shilling Shockers (PDSS) Season 7 until the new Midnight Mausoleum (MM) shows arrive.  We’re also looking forward to a new season of PDSS.

Midnight Mausoleum goes to Summer Camp July 23

We run late-night horror films twice each week.  We started with Saturday Fright Special, from Cheshire TV out in Keene, at 10PM on Saturday nights.  Then we got access to two other sources: Penny Dreadful Shilling Shockers, from New Bedford, and Midnight Mausoleum, from Iowa (I know… I had to look at a map!  🙂  ).  There were fewer of these available, and they didn’t seem to be produced as regularly as Saturday Fright, so we  put them together in the same time slot at 11PM on Friday, and alternate them as new episodes come in, or we repeat older episodes.  These, and others we now could add, are based on old movies where the copyright has expired, so the creative souls (or soul-less creators, depending on the host) can add their commentary and humor without having to pay royalties.

Our good friends at Midnight Mausoleum have pulled off a major coup — we’re getting a brand-new horror film this summer.  Zombie Abomination will run on ACTV20 on July 23rd.   In their own words:

Midnight Mausoleum also has stepped up their production schedule from when we first started showing them, so we’re looking forward to a long and enjoyable run of their content.

Not to be outdone, Penny Dreadful made a large chunk of their back catalog available to us, so we have been able to show samples from their Season 2 and 4, as well as all of seasons 5, 6, and 7, which ended for us in January.  We’re looking forward to Penny Dreadful Season 8, in addition to Midnight Mausoleum, for a great year ahead of  Friday night horror.
